Welcome to my portfolio. I am an abstract painter and would like to share with the wider world what I do. I am a modern primitive who deliberately chooses to work with handmade/found pigments and unusual canvas materials instead of the traditional artist's materials commonly available in art shops. My choice of pigment-material includes tealeaves, beach sand from different shorelines, rusted iron filings and fire ash. My choice of surface includes industrial felt-pads, roofing slate, time-scarred floorboards, sackcloth and embossed wallpaper. I am attracted to these raw and awkward materials because each of them has a personality and a previous life which infiltrates into and imposes a whole new vitality into the over-painted abstractions.
My works are amorphous, free from definition. The mixed media is applied arrhythmically and form in the paintings is achieved without a premeditated use of line. The reduced palette and single theme generate unity and power. Fittingly, the paintings in the series have no titles.
